Obituary:
Biddeford, Andrew S. Copeland, 51, died of a heart attack on Wednesday morning at his home.
He was reared in Portland and graduated from Deering High School in the class of 1984. Andy was active in sports including track, wrestling and youth hockey. After graduation, he attended Southern Maine Community College and the University of Southern Maine.
An early proponent of body building, Andy became very active in organizations promoting the sport. At the young age of 19, he became “Mr. Maine”, the youngest to obtain the title. He went to represent the state in New England’s and Nationally. Andy also boxed professionally in the Golden Gloves.
On May 30, 1994, he married Dina Burley and they had two sons, Andrew N and Daniel J. Copeland, both who survive him.
Andy had a lifelong interest in animals. He spent many years employed at Scarborough Downs, where he owned horses. His favorite companion was Gretchen, his Belgium Shepherd Dog.
Possessing a steel trap memory, he was familiar with all the statistics of every player on the professional teams he followed passionately, including the St. Louis Cardinals and the St. Louis Rams.
Despite his love of sports, his world revolved around his two sons, who he could never be more proud of each and every accomplishment they achieved.
Andy is survived by his son Andrew of Helena, Montana, son Daniel of Biddeford, mother Marilyn Dashner of Portland, brother Robert and Diane Copeland of Daytona, FL, brother Gary Knight and wife Lynn of Livermore Falls, brother Gregory Knight and wife Danielle of Otisfield, Sister Gail Knight of Orlando, Fla, sister Barbara Barbour and husband David of Port Charlotte, FL and many nieces and nephews.
Andrew is predeceased by his father, Nathan Copeland and a brother Joseph Copeland.

So fast our lives go by. Andy and I were good friends back in the 90s. I would go to his home visit him and Nate along with the dog. Andy always spoke highly of his two sons and his one love Dina. I always looked up to Andy when he was into something he made it a point to be the best. I remember in HS he was super fast in track. Then he was the youngest Mr. Maine. Yes sir if and when he put his mind to it he was the best a man could be. People in this world seem to want to point out others flaws in order to make themselves feel better I guess. I choose to tell ya all that Andrew Copeland had a huge heart and did a lot of things to be proud of in the short time he was here. God Bless all he left behind. Please let me know of any services that may be held. Peace
