A “Celebration of Life” service will be held at The Salvation Army, Old Orchard Beach Corps on Saturday, May 14, 2016 at 11am. She will be laid to rest beside her husband at Laurel Hill Cemetery – Salvation Army Section of Deering Park. Dennett, Craig & Pate Funeral Home, 365 Main Street, Saco has been entrusted with the arrangements.

Scarborough – Barbara K. Ferreira, age 84, of Old Orchard Beach, was Promoted to Glory on May 5, 2016 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House.
She was born in Long Branch, NJ on October 27, 1931, daughter of Frank and Lynette Kuhl. She attended Monmouth Jr. College as a History Major; attended the Salvation Army Officer’s Training College in the Bronx and was commissioned/ordained an officer/minister in 1952.
Her early days as an officer in The Salvation Army included ministry in Pennsylvania, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. In 1957, she married Arthur F. Ferreira, continued her work as an officer in The Salvation Army in partnership with her husband in Massachusetts, Connecticut, New York, New Jersey and Ohio. During this time, they raised a family of 4 boys and a girl.
They retired as Majors in The Salvation Army to Old Orchard Beach in 1995. Following her husband’s passing 2008; she was trained and volunteered at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House. She also volunteered her time at The Salvation Army in Old Orchard Beach.
In the Fall of 2015, she moved from her home in Old Orchard to the Atria in Kennebunk.
Barbara loved her family and was a musician. She played the accordion and over the years played baritone in various Salvation Army Bands. She loved to sing and served as the chaplain for The Salvation Army Old Orchard Beach Songsters (choir) for several years.
She was predeceased by her husband Arthur, her son Stephen, two sisters and a brother.
She is survived by sons John Ferreira, Philip Ferreira, Andrew Ferreira and daughter Beverly Anderson. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews as well as 13 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
