Obituary:
Lois Van Pelt-Marki 87 of Biddeford passed away March 2, 2016 at Maine Medical Center. She was born on April 25, 1928in New Brunswick, New Jersey, the daughter of William and Florence Leonard Van Pelt, Sr.
Van attended Rutgers Women’s College and the New Jersey College for Women. She moved to Maine with her husband Jean Marki, he passed away in 1974. Van spent much of her life in sales, owning an eclectic rock shop called Stones and Stuff on Exchange Street in Portland. She performed in plays at the Ogunquit Playhouse and loved to read, especially Sherlock Holmes. Her special love was her dog Bunkie.

What an elegant woman you were, I always loved your jewelry, and your wonderful hats, you looked like you just came from Paris, France, i enjoyed meeting with you in my office when i was Mayor and loved the old pictures your brought me of the play Arsenic and Old Lace that we worked on together for Biddeford. I was always in awe of you, and I thought you were simply marvelous. In celebration of your life Van. it was nice knowing you.
