Obituary:
Windham - Sarah Blood, 73, passed away peacefully on April 5, 2023, surround by family and love. Sarah was born on February 14, 1950, in Belfast, the daughter of Daniel and Emma Foley.
Sarah graduated from John Bapst High School in 1968. She then attended Cosmetology School earning her beautician's license. Sarah practiced styling hair for some time until she found her calling at EMMC where she was employed as a phlebotomist. She enjoyed working with the patients and felt proud of her work. Not only was Sarah proud of her professional accomplishments, but she also took pride in raising her two sons, as a single mother, teaching them the importance of hard work and family first. Often referred to by many as the "fun mom," she had an open-door policy for her boys, friends, and family. Sarah was the central figure in her son's lives. She loved attending her children's and grandchildren's sporting events, and concerts. While her children attended school Sarah worked for the Brewer School Department as an Educational Technician, supporting children with disabilities. Sarah later returned to phlebotomy at Affiliated Laboratory in Bangor, working 24 years until her retirement in 2018.
Following her retirement, Sarah moved to Southern Maine to be closer to her youngest son and family. Sarah enjoyed shopping, trips to the beach, taking risks at the casinos, cruising around in her car, texting and chatting on the phone with her cousins, Camilla and Frank; besties, Alicia, Diane, and Helen; and her sister, Mary Lou. She loved capturing memories on her phone, and posting picture upon picture to Facebook, but what she cherished most of all was her family. She loved taking walks with her grandsons and doing whatever her granddaughter imagined. Sarah became quite comfortable within her new community, making friends and creating exciting adventures.
Sarah was predeceased by her parents, Daniel and Emma Foley; son, Isaac James Blood; and nephew, Thomas Irving Buchanan III. Sarah is survived by her son, Benjamin Thomas Blood and wife, Tori Elizabeth Blood; daughter-in-law, Terry Blood; grandchildren, Natasha Frederick, Isaac James Blood Jr., Caleb Scott Blood, and Emma Roseanne Blood; great-grandchildren, Miya, Allie, and Ruby; sister, Mary Lou and Tommy Buchanan, and nephew, Daniel Buchanan.
A graveside service at Oak Hill Cemetery in Winterport, and reception will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please make donations in her name to Hospice of Southern Maine, Gosnell House for exceptional care.
