Obituary:
Priscilla (Pine) Bednarz, formerly of Williamsport, PA passed away peacefully at the age of 94 in the home of her daughter in Oviedo, FL on March 27, 2023. Born in 1929, Priscilla was raised in Westerly, RI, the daughter of two schoolteachers, Earle and Edith Pine. She excelled at school and graduated from Boston University in 1949 at the age of 20.
She married Wallace W. Bednarz shortly after graduation on June 11, 1949. While living in Boston she had three children, two sons (one died in infancy) and a daughter. As the wife of an Air Force officer, she travelled with him to an Illinois Air Force base where she had another daughter. While stationed with her husband in Wiesbaden, Germany, they travelled throughout parts of Europe. They returned to the U.S. to reside in Williamsport, PA when Wallace retired from military service. She continued to enjoy travelling to Europe, New Zealand, and Australia with her family. Opals were her favorite jewel and she was able to mine for them during her visit to Australia.
Priscilla enjoyed friendships she made with people she met during her travels and remained in touch with them. She served as a scout leader when her children were in boy and girl scouts, always volunteering to support their efforts. She enjoyed her friends at home, playing in bridge, duplicate bridge, and Mahjongg clubs. Extremely artistic, she volunteered to assist with the planning and decoration for floats or any organizational function. A talented cake decorator, she often made specialty cakes for friends’ birthdays and other celebrations.
She is predeceased by her husband Wallace, son Antonia, and daughter Kathryn. Priscilla is survived by her son Stephen Bednarz in Wilkes Barre, PA and her daughter Elizabeth (Larry) Laychur in Oviedo, FL; several grandchildren Derek (Cate) Bednarz of Dedham, MA, Kevin and Andy Bednarz of Wilkes Barre, PA, Nicholas Laychur of Denver, CO, and Amanda Laychur of Orlando, FL; and two great grandchildren, Bridgett and Jacob Bednarz.
