Obituary:
ROCKLAND - Shawneen Lynn Sansom, 52, died surrounded by family on March 7, 2022 after a long and courageous battle with ovarian cancer.
Born in Rockland on May 13th, 1969 she was the daughter of Colleen (Sansom) Weed and Richard Winchenbach, and adopted by her grandmother Patricia (Holbrook) Sansom.
She attended schools locally in Rockland and Camden, graduating from Rockland District High School, and later earned her bachelor degree at the University of Maine.
Shawneen loved her family, those friends who became family, and raising her daughter Samantha. She had a passion for genealogy, spending countless hours researching and visiting sites around New England. She enjoyed tinkering on cars, was always up for a road trip, and loved to ride around with no destination and the music cranked.
Predeceased by her mother Colleen, and her brother Capt. Trevor Linscott; Shawneen is survived by her daughter Samantha Sansom and her partner Ian Whitmore of Portland; grandmother Patricia of Rockland; sister Charity Wentworth and her partner Pete Burch of Rockland; aunt whom she considered a sister Coral and her husband Michael Coombs of Lincolnville; uncle William Holbrook and his partner Sandra Lucas of Marlborough, MA; niece Brianna Wentworth, and her son Jacob; and cousin Joshua Coombs, his wife Melissa and their daughter Sophie.
Shawneen’s family is choosing to celebrate her life privately. In lieu of flowers, her family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Pope Memorial Humane Society in Thomaston, ME. "
