Obituary:
Saco, Jessie E. Whittemore (Clark) 85, of Hubbard St passed away unexpectedly Wednesday February 16, 2022, at the Southern Maine Health Care surrounded by her children.
Jessie was born May 7, 1936, the daughter of Walter and Lucy Davis Clark. She grew up along the Saco River on the Boom Road where her parents and her brother, Walter, gardened and raised geese, ducks and chickens.
Jessie attended local schools and graduated from Thornton Academy in 1956.
She worked as a bookkeeper for Sweeter Children's Home where she was introduced to Robert Whittemore, whom she would marry in 1965. When they started to build their family, she became a stay-at-home mom to her 6 children. They were members of the First Parish Congregational Church. Jessie kept busy by selling Avon and Tupperware to many community residents and babysitting neighborhood children. She later became a CNA and then earned her LPN license after training at Southern Maine Vocational Technical Institute in South Portland. She worked in nursing homes and assisted living facilities including Evergreen Manor, Good Shepard Villa, and retired from 75 State Street in Portland. During her early retirement she kept busy with gardening, visiting with friends and family and volunteering at the Saco Museum. She still had a desire to continue nursing and took a per diem position at St André Health Care where she continued to work as an LPN for several years before completely retiring.
She was a long-term member of the International Association of Rebekah Assemblies (IARA), Olive #21 Lodge. She was a devoted member and held positions of Secretary and Treasurer.
She enjoyed gardening, reading, fishing, traveling, doing crafts, leaf peeping, spending time with family at her childhood plot of land on the Saco River and watching the fishing boats at Pine Point. She was an avid animal lover and had several dogs, cats, ducks, geese, chickens and parakeets that she raised over the years.
Jessie is predeceased by a son, Wayne Whittemore.
She is survived by a son, James Whittemore and wife Debbie of Jacksonville,
FL and 4 daughters; Robin Dimitrova of Saco, Hope Lambert of Saco, Holly Andrews and husband Brad of Holden, and Ellen Farrar husband Rick of Saco and, 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren.

I’m so sorry to learn of Jessie’s passing. She was such a dear friend. Jessie is one of the kindest people I have known. She was very helpful, and instrumental in keeping our high school classmates lunches active. I will truly miss her. My sympathies to her family. You were blessed with a good mother.
