Obituary:
Marcella “Marcy” Benedict, 80, of 100 Saco Falls Way, Biddeford, Maine passed peacefully Saturday, November 30, 2019 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough. Marcy’s vitality, spirit and strength will be greatly missed by her family and all those who had the opportunity to know her.
She was born in Babylon, Long Island, New York November 7, 1939 the daughter of Frederick and Evelyn Wulf Bassi.
Marcy graduated Babylon High School, Babylon, NY and while there preferred participating in sports, extra-curricular clubs and activities, and socializing, instead of class. Marcy had a sharp mind and was exceptionally adept with numbers. She went onto vocational studies for office administration, bookkeeping and finance.
A donator and avid supporter of animal rights, shelters and cruelty prevention, and marine and environmental protection organizations, Marcy was enthusiastic about her chosen charities.

From her youth, Marcy enjoyed the outdoors as well as individual and team sports. She was a strong swimmer and diver, both at the town pool and the Atlantic Ocean. In school, she excelled in field hockey, basketball, volleyball, cheerleading and softball. After graduation, she volunteered as a CYO girls' softball coach, achieving championships and lasting friendships. Later in life, she continued having fun with tennis, water skiing, fishing, canoeing and downhill skiing. Marcy enjoyed reading, cooking and good food, and playing cards and board games with family and friends. She enjoyed watching professional tennis on TV and her favorite player was Roger Federer. She loved music and was a great dancer. Her last live concert was OneRepublic in Laconia, NH in 2017, attended with her daughter, where she laughed, sang along and loudly applauded. Her greatest enjoyment was at the water, whether it be the lakes region of Maine or the Atlantic Ocean. The sand beneath her feet, the wildlife and the roar of the waves made Marcy most happy.
Marcy's widespread and varied career as a full-charge bookkeeper began at Lunn Laminates, Inc. of Huntington, NY. Upon moving to Maine in 1976, she held positions at Keely Construction, Northeastern Lumber Manufacturer's Association, Southern Maine Dialysis, and Bushmaster Firearms. She moved to Deltona, Florida and was the office manager for a family insurance and investment agency. Later, while living in Penn Yan, NY, she worked as an administrative supervisor for Finger Lakes Health. Marcy's long employment career concluded in Old Orchard Beach for Absolute Beach Rentals as an office administrator.
