Obituary:
Royden E. Chapman "Chapy" of Hollis, Maine passed away on Thurs, September 26,2019 at home. Chapy was born on October 12, 1931 in Freeport, Maine. He married Louise M Cochran on October 27,1951. He served in the United States Air Force during the Korean Conflict from 1951 until 1953. Chapy was employed by Health Tex Corporation for 33 years before embarking on an early retirement in 1986. This became a turning point for him, it began his love for carpentry and creative woodworking full time and provided not only his grandchildren with hours of play, but now his great grandchildren with wonderful gifts to still be enjoyed after all these years!

Chapy attended South Gorham Baptist Church since he was a child, and all through his years, he spent many hours in dedication and service through his library work, audio visual, as well as repair and carpentry as needed without being solicited. He truly gave of himself through his service. In later years, both he and Louise attended a local parish at Bar Mills Community Church.
Chapy's favorite pastime, however, was hanging with his grandchildren, playing games, teasing, or just watching them grow up.

Chapy is survived by his loving wife Louise of 68 years, a son Michael and his wife Catherine of Hollis Center, Maine,a daughter Dianna Chapman Johnston and her husband Dana Johnston of Laconia, NH. His four grandchildren; Nicole Chapman,Maine; Joshua Johnston, RI; Caleb Johnston, CT; Samuel Johnston, NY; and 5 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his brother Mason C. Chapman, Jr. in 1988, his parents Mason Chandler in 1976 and his mother Abbie Bragdon Chapman in 1994.

My heart hurts for Louise, Michael and Cathy and the other family members that I don't know. This was so sudden - I just saw Chapy at church on Sunday the 22nd. He was always so quiet and sweet, and I loved his hugs. I won't be able to be at the service tomorrow as we had planned to be away with our family for the day, but my thoughts and prayers follow you through these days of sadness. Blessings to all those loved by Chapy. Jennie

Chapy often presented himself as a rather gruff man. The truth when you finally realized it, was that he was a big hearted guy, with a great sense of humor, that expected a lot of people, especially those he loved. I will miss the verbal exchanges we had over the years.
