Obituary:
Philip C. Gatley, 60, lost his battle with Cancer on Saturday September 22, 2018. He was a life-long resident of South Portland, graduating from South Portland High School and from the Carpentry Program at SMCC. Phil was the only child of Donald and Camella DeMarino Gatley, who predeceased him.
Phil built many homes in the South Portland and Cape Elizabeth areas. He traveled extensively visiting Malaysia, Australia, Hawaii as well as many other countries and US states. Although Phil never married; he shared lasting memories with his friends families and children.
Phil, better known as “The Gats” would make his daily neighborhood rounds in his truck visiting his many friends having coffee in the morning and continuing his visits until late in the evening. Many times, he would check in on elderly friends to help out with fixing a leaky faucet, going to the grocery store or whatever needed to be done. He loved dogs, often caring for friends animals for extended periods of time. Phil was very generous always wanting to share what he had with anyone who would let him. Gats enjoyed being at the lake and sitting by the campfire with friends. He always enjoyed telling wild stories of his latest adventures.
Phil will be sadly missed by his many ,many friends and family.
