Obituary:
Jane K. Horne, a recent resident of Oceanview in Falmouth, ME, peacefully transitioned on March 4, 2018, at Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough, ME, after a series of unfortunate health events. Jane, a former high school English teacher, possessed a love of the English language. An avid watcher of Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy, all who knew Jane, knew a call received during the sacred hour of 7pm-8pm weekdays would not be well received. Jane was born in Dover, NH, on October 2, 1928. She studied at the University of New Hampshire while raising her six children. Ted, the youngest, was just three years old when she received her degree in 1967. Jane was raised in Dover, moving later in life to various locations around the US with her high school sweetheart, James K. Horne, who subsequently became her second husband in 1978. They shared 27 years together before his death in 2001. In 2002 Jane went to Key West Florida, to visit her son, Dennis, and escape the often brutal Northeast winters. She loved Key West so much she decided to stay. Enjoying 15 years of fine dining, glorious weather, and multiple, not so glorious hurricanes, all the while making numerous friends. She took great pleasure in hosting family and friends from around the country and sharing a little piece of her paradise. Jane was a familiar face volunteering for many years at the sign in desk at the Lower Keys Medical Center in Key West. She was also a dedicated parishioner of Basilica of Saint Mary Star of the Sea, Key West. In June of last year, Jane decided to move back up North and settled in Falmouth, ME, a short distance from her oldest daughter, Peggy. Jane was preceded in death by her two youngest sons, Dennis John Harrity and Edward Francis Harrity, and her sister Ellen Morley. Jane is survived by four of her living children, Margaret Harrity and her wife Judy Graham, Buxton, ME; Jane Francis Winter, PA, and her children Olivia, Colin, and Madeline; Michael Harrity, Tucson, AZ; Megan Harrity, Fort Collins, CO, and her children Chantal, Mayne, and Julia; stepdaughter Penelope Grossman and her husband David Grossman, Newton Centre, MA, and their children Skylar and Haley; stepdaughter Darcy Brown and her husband Richard Bulmer, Livermore, CA; stepdaughter Lydia Clarke and her husband Raymond Clarke, Lynbrook, NY, and their sons James and Sean; many nieces, nephews, cousins, and great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sister Elizabeth Craig and her husband David Craig, Sebastian, FL; Sister Mary Olivia Kidney, RSM, Manchester, NH; and her brother Michael Kidney and his wife Sharon, Dover, NH.
