Saco - Lewis “Capt. Benny” Watkins, 68, of High St. Saco passed away December 22, 2017 unexpectedly while working at Southridge Living Center. He was born in Wytheville, Virginia December 5, 1949 the son of Lewis and Josie Hilton Watkins.
Benny and was raised by his mother and grew up in the Washington DC area. He came in Maine in the late 1970’s and worked maintenance for Jordon Meats and La Batts Brewing. Then under the guidance of Hilda Dudley Cushing, he graduated from Maine Maritime Academy in 1984. Capt. Benny then worked the Casco Bay Lines for over 25 years.
In his semi-retirement he worked for Southridge Living Center in Biddeford.
Benny was an avid hunter, enjoyed sail boats, bird watching, playing guitar and had a keen sense of humor. He also enjoyed the company of his recently adopted cat “Mr. Puss”.
Survivors include his companion Katherine Landry of Saco, a son Lewis Watkins Jr and his wife Castina of Oakland and his mother Donna Watkins, a daughter Melody Teng of Illinois, a sister Joanne Watkins of Lewiston and her son Ronald Watkins, a brother Freddie Vantresco, 4 grandchildren Christopher Lottle, Paige Littlefield, Danielle Watkins, and Dakota Watkins, and 3 great grandchildren Mikayla, Isabell, and Willow.
