Obituary:
Jonah Desmo Cook, 21, of Shapleigh, Maine passed away unexpectedly on November 12, 2016. Jonah was born on August 29,1995 in Sanford, Maine to his parents, Joel Cook and Debra (Gee Cobain) Adams. He was the youngest brother to Cooper and Duncan, and the older brother to his sister Sophie.
Jonah shared a love of music and laughter with his whole family. He could master any musical instrument he could get his hands on. He and his brother, Duncan, were known to have epic double-bass drum battles. Jonah was also active in his school’s music program. When he was 11, he fearlessly participated in a guitar competition against multiple established musicians and blew the judges away with his talent. Jonah was incredibly bright and good with his hands. From a very young age, he had a natural curiosity and could figure out how just about anything worked. Jonah loved to laugh, and brought so much humor into his family and friends’ lives. He especially enjoyed making his mother laugh, as he adored her and looked forward to every moment he got to spend with her. Jonah and his sister were especially close, as he felt very protective of her. They were inseparable-wherever Jonah went, he made sure Sophie was close behind. Jonah was always up for an adventure, and he enjoyed skateboarding, skiing, mountain biking, and riding his dirt bike in his teen years. He looked up to his father, happily joining him camping, shooting and doing anything outdoorsy. Since graduating from Massabesic High School in 2013, Jonah had spent time traveling the country with his pitbull, Cypher, who was his constant companion. Jonah was both fearless and incredibly resourceful, qualities that allowed him to see the country, visiting a multitude of states in less than 3 years. During that time, in fact all his life, he was quick to make friends. Jonah was accepting of everyone, he never judged a person by their outward appearance or status, and he touched people from all walks of life across the country. In the past year, Jonah was joined in his travels by his brother, Cooper, whom he introduced to road life. Together, they renovated a red school bus dubbed “The Scallywagon” so they could travel in style.
Jonah is survived by his father Joel Cook and his girlfriend Sarah Petersen, his mother Debra Adams and her husband Patrick Adams, his brother Cooper Cook and his girlfriend Iole Heikkinen, his brother Duncan Cook and his girlfriend Amber Nordmann, his sister Sophie Bilodeau, his step-siblings Josh Adams, Shauna Petrillo, Gabe Fournier, and Sam Fournier, his girlfriend Marisa Brown and her son Jaxon, his grandparents James Cook, Wendy Heintzelman and Charles Hutchins and Larry and Carol Hickman, his great grandmother Elizabeth Rowe, his great-aunt Judy Cook, his multiple cousins, and his beloved dog, Cypher.
A celebration of Jonah’s life will be held at a later date to be determined.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jonah’s name to: Hope for Paws -www.hopeforpaws.org
