Born on January 15, 1948, in North Conway, NH, John was the son of the late Norman L. McDonald of Fryeburg, ME and the late Olive E. (Johnson) Farrar of Bradford, N.H. He also enjoyed car racing and spent many nights and weekends racing at Beech Ridge Motor Speedway. He had a great sense of humor, quick wit and made several long lasting friendships that he cherished deeply. He loved to make his grandkids laugh and smile and had a soft spot for the family cat, Sadie. He worked as a crane operator at Mcquire & Jones and Bankcroft & Martin before he recently retired.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Heidi Leveille and her husband Brandon of Berwick, Maine; his son, John McDonald, Jr. and his wife Kathy of Windham, Maine; a daughter, Shelly Curtis of Standish, Maine, a daughter Tammy Flaherty of Westbrook, Maine and a son Scott McDonald of Portland, Maine, and 19 grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Norman Feeder and his wife Vivian of Naples, FL; brother, Ricky Coburn of Conway, NH, sister Kathy Carr of Penacook, NH, sister Shirley Hamlin and her husband Don of Brownfield, Maine, and sister Robin Blake and her husband Ron of Brownfield, Maine; mother-in-law, Thelma Hersey; several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. The family would like to extend a heartfelt and sincere thank you to all the staff at the Gosnell Hospice House, but especially his home hospice nurse, Julie, for the compassionate care they provided to John.
