A memorial service will be held for Karen on Friday May 20th 2016 at 1:00PM at the Union Church of Biddeford Pool. Reception to follow at the Biddeford Pool Fire Barn. Dennett, Craig & Pate Funeral Home and Cremation 365 Main St, Saco are in charge of the arrangements.

Obituary:
Kennebunk - Karen Francis Goodwin Barbee, 82, of Nottingham Court, passed away April 12, 2016 at her residence.
She was born in Biddeford Maine November 10, 1934 the daughter of Albra and Thelma Crowley Goodwin.
Karen attended local schools and graduated from Biddeford High School in 1952.
She then graduated as a Registered Nurse from Mercy School of Nursing in Portland.
After Mercy school she received a degree of Registered Nurse Anesthesiology from St. Joseph School of Anesthesiology in Lancaster, PA.
Karen then taught anesthesiology in Pennsylvania for several years.
Moving to Stanford, CT, she worked as a nurse anesthetist and then continued her career at Addision Gilbert Hospital in Gloucester, MA. She and her husband Tom, bought a lovely house in Rockport, MA and lived there until their retirement in 1993. They then moved back to her Biddeford Pool family home with Tom and “Blitzen” their German Shepard.
Karen had inherited her mother’s green thumb and grew many beautiful flowers in her gardens around her home at “ The Pool”.
After her husband passed away, Kay and her best friend from childhood, Dorothy Butler, bought a condo in Kennebunk and lived out her days.
Karen was very active in her childhood church, the “Union Church” at the pool and faithfully served it all her life.
She is a member of Annette Chapter # 184 Order of the Eastern Star of Saco. She was a member and excelled at golf at the Biddeford Saco Country Club.
Karen made beautiful oriental rugs and also loved to travel. Recently she cruised the Danube River thru many countries in Europe.
Suffering from that dreaded disease, Breast Cancer, for many years she fought with great courage, dignity with never a complaint.
She is predeceased by her husband Thomas Barbee, a sister Judith M. Sweetser of High Springs, FL and a brother Dana Goodwin.
She is survived by a brother
Dr. Marshall Goodwin and his wife Dianeof Scarborough, a sister Evelyn Breault and her husband Jerry of Acton, ME and a step son Lawrence Barbee of New Jersey and many nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly.
