A funeral mass will be held on February 13th at 10 AM, at Most Holy Trinity, Saco, Maine. Dennett, Craig and Pate Funeral Home, 365 Main Street, Saco, are in charge of the arrangements.

Obituary:
SACO – Daniel Joseph Courtney, 87, of Egret Cove, Saco, passed away February 5, 2012 at his home in Saco with his wife of 65 years by his side. He was born on March 20, 1924, in Worcester, Massachusetts. Following graduation from high school in Newton, MA, in 1943, he entered the US Army Air Force where he served with the 444th Bomb Group in India, China, Burma and the Marianas Islands in the Pacific.
Following discharge from the service Daniel attended Boston University College of Business Administration and Graduate School of Education, where he received a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration and also received Masters Degrees in Education and Business Administration.
In 1950, he was recalled to active duty in the Korean War; he served with the 402nd QM Graves Registration Battalion in Korea until 1952 and was honorably discharged from the Army with the rank of Major.
He was employed as a national representative with a number of health care organizations including American Cancer Society, the Arthritis Foundation, and St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital. In 1980, Mr. Courtney moved to San Antonio, Texas with his family to take a position as executive director with the San Antonio chapter of the American Heart Association. In 1981, he was employed as building manager at North Frost Center, a position he held until his retirement in 1995. Dan was a member of the San Antonio Building Owners and Managers Association and the Institute of Real Estate Management.
Daniel enjoyed being fit and ran in the Las Colonias Marathon in San Antonio in 1982. He also enjoyed fishing as traveled to South Padre Island for many years.
He leaves his wife, Irene Jean Courtney, whom he married in 1946 as his high school sweetheart, sons, John Courtney, of Colorado Springs, CO, David Courtney of Portland, Maine, Dr. Joseph Courtney of Boulder, CO, Dr. Thomas Courtney of Saco, Maine and Frank Courtney of Lakewood, CO and a daughter, Elaine Edwards of Ramstein, Germany, 17 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren.
