Relatives and friends are invited to pay their respects at Dracut Funeral Home, 2159 Lakeview Avenue, Dracut on Sunday, March 15th from 1 - 4 PM. Funeral will be held from the Funeral Home on Monday, March 16th at 8 AM with her Funeral Mass to follow at 9 AM in St. Rita Church, Lowell. Interment in St. Patrick Cemetery, Lowell.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Rita’s name to the Alzheimer's Association 480 Pleasant Street, Watertown, MA 02472.
Obituary:
Rita M. (Rapone) Shoemaker, 86, a longtime resident of Dracut, died peacefully on Thursday, March 12th, at Durgin Pines Nursing Home in Kittery, Maine. She was the wife of the late Floyd B. Shoemaker who died on January 16, 1974.
Rita was born in Lowell on January 9, 1929, a daughter of the late Serafine (Lodato) and Mauro Rapone. She was educated in Lowell and a graduate of Butler High School in Lowell. For many years she worked as a data entry clerk for the CTI Company in Lowell until her retirement.
Rita was a talented seamstress and had a passion for sewing. She also enjoyed reading, cross word puzzles and playing games with family and friends.
She was predeceased by her son Anthony Shoemaker as well as her brothers, Antonio, Leonard and Augustine Rapone and her sisters, Mary Rapone and Francisca Berube.
She is survived by her two children, Diane R. Seguin and her husband David of York, Maine, and John J. Shoemaker of Lowell; her brother-in-law, Hector Berube of Dracut, as well as eight grandchildren Diana, Andre, Jonathan, Brittany, Edward and Kristina Shoemaker and Eric Seguin and Jennifer Wilson; 2 great-grandchildren, Destiny and Steven, as well as many nieces and nephews.
