Obituary:
Joyce L. Goodwin, 88 , formerly of Sage Way, Goodwins Mills, passed away January 26, 2015, the last of nine children, at the Seal Rock Healthcare facility. She was born in Washburn, ME on June 20, 1926 the daughter of Loredo and Pearl Beardsley Rouse. She grew up in the potato fields of The County and moved down-state to Goodwins Mills when she was 19. She was the last named "Goodwin" living in the Goodwins Mills village.
She was a very active member of the Advent Christian Church of Goodwins Mills. She was involved in the church mission society, a Sunday School teacher and a Choir member.
She was recently predeceased by her husband Linwood Goodwin in November of 2014. They were married for 67 years. Joyce took care of their 9 children during the early years of their marriage & worked on the family vegetable farm, canning & preserving all summer to feed the large family all winter. Once the children were grown she went to work at So-Fro/Joanne Fabrics in Biddeford as the Assistant Manager, a job she enjoyed immensely. She loved to sew, read, and bake. She made desserts that are family legends and her children always had lunches of home-made bread & cookies. She organized reunions, Holidays & picnics that were huge family affairs.
Her grandkids were the delight of her life and she made sure they were welcomed & adored at the farm. They all learned to bake cookies wrapped up in home-sewn aprons next to her in the kitchen, with her cherished dog at her feet.
She was deceased by three sons Robert Goodwin, Richard Baker, and David Hersom.
Survivors include five daughters Elizabeth Barr of Augusta, Debra Goodwin of Burlington, VT, Wanda Small of Goodwins Mills, Barbara Pennanen of Portland, and Kimberly Bryant of Portland; a son Kermit Sargent of California; many grandchildren and great grandchildren; as well as many nieces and nephews.
