Robert P. Mougalian, 84, of Waterman Road, died peacefully on Saturday evening, August 30th, 2014 at St. André Health Care in Biddeford surrounded by family.
He was born in Boston, MA to the late Steven and Mildred Mougalian on February 8, 1930. Bob graduated from Hyde Park High School in 1948. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and saw the world as he was stationed in Panama, Germany, and Washington State. After he left the service, Bob moved to Portland, where he met the love of his life, Ruth (neé Klinghammer). They married in 1953. Bob was a successful businessman, building the Robert P. Mougalian and Sons Oriental Rug business, now called Mougalian Rugs and operated by his son in Scarborough. He also raised and raced horses for many years from his farm in Buxton.
Bob’s greatest gift was the fun and light-heartedness he shared with everyone he met. He loved befriending people from all walks of life, and always had a twinkle in his eye and a funny story to tell. He and his family loved the outdoors and to be active. They enjoyed cross-country and downhill skiing in Maine, New Hampshire, and all over Europe (during which many interesting friends were accumulated), dancing at the Portland Club, and boating on Sebago Lake.
Bob is survived by his wife Ruth, sons Ronney and wife Jeannette of Buxton and Randall and wife Beth of Standish, brothers Steven and wife Mary of Dallas, TX, Donald of Boston, MA, Raymond and wife Terry of Methuen, MA, Alfred and wife Winnie of Stoughton, MA, grandchildren Melissa Mougalian Smith and husband Mike of Limerick, Dale Mougalian of Westbrook, Lynn Blanchette Copp and husband Jason of Cumberland, Kristen Blanchette Fitz and fiancé Brent Frank of Gorham, and Brett Mougalian and wife Emily of Gorham, cousins Richard Moughalian of Venice, FL and Karen Moughalian Wright of Falmouth, along with many beloved great-grandchildren, nephews, and nieces.
