Funeral services will be held on Saturday, May 10 at 10:30am at Dennett, Craig & Pate Funeral Home, 365 Main St., Saco. Dr. Burton Howe will officiate. A viewing will be held at 10:00am on Saturday before the funeral services and a burial will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery. . In lieu of flowers please send donations to the Order of the Eastern Star c/o Joyce Duross Ouellette, 66 Berry Rd., Saco, ME 04072 or the Animal Welfare Society in West Kennebunk, 46 Holland Rd., Kennebunk, ME 04043.

A. Wendell Stackpole died at his home in Kennebunkport, Maine on May 6, 2014, with his family. He was born on December 8, 1914, in Saco, Maine, son of Fred Stackpole and Etta M. Ridlon. He graduated from Thornton Academy in 1934. His wife of 67 years, Edna L. Wildes, predeceased him in 2009. He was a member of the Saco Masonic Lodge #9 F & AM, York Chapter #5 and a Past Patron of the former Adah Chapter of the Eastern Star in Biddeford. He worked as a tool maker and manufacturing engineer at Saco Lowell in Maine. He was also a manufacturing engineer at Raytheon in Massachusetts, Olin in Connecticut, and Hitchiner Manufacturing Company in Milford, NH. He was an avid hunter, fisherman, gardener and devoted Husband and Father. He is survived by one daughter, Wendy Schmitt of Bennington, VT; two granddaughters, Kimberly A. Schmitt, a patent attorney in San Francisco, CA and Jennifer M. Schmitt a marine biologist in Coos Bay, Oregon, and; three great-grandchildren.
