Visitation Information:
Burial will be private amongst George's family at Laurel Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be this Friday, Oct. 25 from 10 - 11 AM, followed by an 11 AM memorial service at The Salvation Army Corps, located at the corner of Church and Sixth St. in Old Orchard Beach.
Arrangements are with Dennett, Craig and Pate Funeral Home - Saco.

Obituary:
OLD ORCHARD BEACH - George Alfred Gilligan, age 76, of Fort Hill Ave., was Promoted to Glory on Oct. 21, 2013 at 4:45 AM at the Maine Medical Center in Portland surrounded by family.
He was born on Nov. 27, 1936 in Lowell, MA.
George, along with his parents and grandmother all moved to Old Orchard Beach in 1946. George attended Old Orchard Beach Schools and graduated from Old Orchard Beach High School in 1955.
George was born into a Salvation Army family and by age 16 was a bandmaster at the Old Orchard Beach Corps. He was proficient in playing the cornet and euphonium and was an accomplished soloist. As a youth bandmaster, he lead the teenage band members and songsters. He lead Sunday school programs and received the call to enter into The Salvation Army School for Officers.
George enjoyed manning the Christmas kettles and it was around Thanksgiving time that he met his future wife while she was manning a kettle and singing with a Salvation Army trio. This all occurred under the Macy's Marquee.
On July 31, 1959, he married Lois Wolfe.
George is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years - Lois (Wolfe) Gilligan; son - Michael Gilligan and his wife Jennifer of New Gloucester; daughters - Joey Redman and Kathleen Cooper who both reside in Florida; seven grandchildren; sisters- Kathy Rompery, Jean Leeman, Linda Pollard, Faye Roy all of Maine, Pat Ali and Linda Benoit both of New Hampshire; and many nieces and nephews.
George was a man who was saved and sanctified.
