SCARBOROUGH- Joan K. Willis, age 75, of Hanson Road, died unexpectedly on July 10, 2013.
She was born in Porter, a daughter of the late George and Adelaide (Appleby) Worster.
As a child, she attended Scarborough schools and graduated in 1956 from Scarborough High School.
In 1957, she married the love of her life, Stephen A. Libby Jr. and resided in Scarborough where they raised three children together. Joan’s greatest joy in life was being a wife and homemaker. She was a wonderful cook and was especially known for her homemade desserts in which her family, grandchildren, and friends loved. Joan will also be remembered for her kindness and affection she had for all animals. She had many cats throughout her life and donated generously to many animal organizations for the better ethical treatment and protection of animals.
Joan also loved watching sports, especially basketball and baseball and was a diehard Boston Celtics and Red Sox fan. She was overjoyed to see when the Red Sox won their championships in 2004 and 2007. Joan also enjoyed the outdoors and hiked frequently with her daughter and son-in- law in Maine and New Hampshire. Joan enjoyed getting together for holidays and BBQ’s with friends and family. Recently, Joan was overjoyed to spend time with her family on July 4th at a cookout at the home of her daughter Tammy where she got to see her grandsons Robert and Corey together. Despite her age, Joan was a vibrant fun woman to be around. She liked to dance to rock and roll music and always had the radio on. She loved dancing and ice skating and loved to watch figure skating and Dancing with the Stars. She was always very compassionate and caring towards others as she helped friends in need by driving them to appointments or baking a special dessert to cheer them up. She will be missed by all and never forgotten.
She is predeceased by her beloved husband Stephen Libby Jr. in 1983 and her second husband Michael Willis in 1999; and her sister Alicia Small.
Joan is survived by a son- Ricky Libby and his wife Chris of Mansfield, OH; daughters- Tammy Templeton of Baldwin, and Lisa Vire and her husband Roland Vire of Scarborough; and three grandchildren- Robert Libby of Alexandria, VA, Stephanie Libby of Mansfied, OH, and Corey Templeton of Portland.
