BUXTON- Richard A. Leighton Sr., age 71, passed away on May 24, 2013, at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born in Portland, Maine on April 1, 1942, a son of the late Ralph and Arlene (Berry) Leighton.
Richard proudly served his country by enlisting in the U.S. Marine Corps. During his enlistment he participated in the Cuban Missile Crisis and served state-side during the Vietnam Conflict.
He then went on to retire from GTE-Sylvania as a machinist and worked at Creative Awards after his retirement.
In the 1970ís he coached Little League and was a Scoutmaster in Troop 342 in Buxton.
Richard was a passionate woodworker. He was a master craftsman who enjoyed spending time doing scroll work. He made scrolled photos for Portrait Freedom, which is an organization that that provides wooden portraits of fallen soldiers to their families. Many of his works he was able to hand deliver himself to the veteranís family.
He is predeceased by his brother- Raymond Leighton.
Richard is survived by his beloved wife of 49 years- Carol (Grant) Leighton; his son- Richard ďRickĒ Leighton Jr. and his wife Karen of Hollis; sister- Janet Lang and her husband Durward of Buxton; and grandchildren- Kari-Lynn, Ashley and Corey.
Per Richardís wishes, there will be no services.
