Visiting hours will be on Friday evening, April 26, from 7-9 PM at the Dennett, Craig & Pate Funeral Home, 365 Main St., in Saco. The Trisagion Service will be held during the visiting hours. A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday at 1 PM at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church, 186 Bradley St. in Saco. Burial will follow at St. Demetrios Hellenic Orthodox Cemetery in Biddeford. Fr. Basil Arabatzis will officiate.

Obituary:
PORTSMOUTH, NH- Eva Giovanis, age 94, fell asleep on April 24, 2013 at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, MA with her son George by her side.

She was born in Saco, Maine on Dec. 20, 1918, a daughter of the late Elias and Evanthia (Demestihas) Brikiatis.

She will always be remembered as a family oriented lady who was very social and thoroughly enjoyed being with people. She was a renowned cook who enjoyed entertaining friends and family. As an entrepreneur she had a keen sense of commercial transactions.

In her early years she was a legal secretary for Marcus and Marcus Law Firm in Portland and an owner and operator of Bricky’s Seafood and Restaurant in Old Orchard Beach with her family, along with the Sea and Surf Cottages. She married and moved to Portsmouth in 1957 where she and her husband Arthur Giovanis started Art’s Pizza which was very successful as pizza was just then becoming popular. She became a real estate broker in NH and purchased and developed real estate which she really enjoyed. Later she became a director of Pepperell Bank and Trust, then became Vice Chairman and then Chairman before retiring in 2007 at the ripe age of 87.

Eva was an active member of St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Saco and St. Nicholas Greek Orthodox Church in Portsmouth. She was active in the Philoptichos Society at both churches and was a past president of the Daughters of Penelope. Eva was also a charter member of the Sorority of Lacones.

Eva enjoyed summers at her beach home in Old Orchard Beach. Her famous ultra high custard pie which was her signature dessert will never be forgotten by family and friends.

She had a zest for living and always felt that each new day brought new opportunity throughout one’s life.

Eva was predeceased by her husband- Arthur Giovanis; and siblings- Richard “Duke”, Nick, Jeffrey, George, Robert, Galyfalya, Christalou, and Betty Brickates. She is also predeceased by a niece- Evanthia Birch.

She is survived by her son- George Giovanis, Esq; nephew- Lewis Brickates, Esq of Fairfax, VA; two nieces- Aggie Lane of Scarborough and Valerie Kennedy of Milton, MA; and several grand nieces and nephews..
