Visiting hours will be on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 PM at the Dennett, Craig & Pate Funeral Home, 365 Main St., Saco. During the evening visiting hours at 7:30 PM, Mr. Johnston will receive Masonic Honors. A funeral service will be held on Friday at 11 AM at the funeral home, followed by burial with military honors at Laurel Hill Cemetery. www.dcpate.com

Obituary:
LYMAN- William R. Johnston III, age 89, of Lyman, passed away peacefully at home after a brief illness on Nov. 1, 2010.

He was born in Saco, Maine on May 6, 1921, a child of Mary Ellen (Murphy) and William R. Johnston II.

He graduated from Thornton Academy in 1940. After graduation he went to work at Saco Lowell where he completed an apprenticeship course. He joined the U.S. Navy Seabees, 101st Battalion. Upon honorable discharge, he returned to Saco Lowell, until it relocated. At that time, he went to work for the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard until he retired in 1983.

He was a member of Saco Masonic Lodge #9 and an honorary member of the Goodwins Mills Fire Department.

He enjoyed yard work, coin collecting, jigsaw puzzles, and playing cards. He also enjoyed machine and wood working. He was often requested to make parts and specialty items for friends and neighbors. He especially enjoyed spending time with family members.

He is predeceased by his parents; a brother- Robert L. Johnston; a sister- Marion Hall; and two grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years- Marjorie (Ross) Johnston; four sons- Robert Johnston and his wife Faith, Bruce Johnston and his wife Joanne, Brian Johnston and his wife Ellen and Blaine Johnston and his wife Gayle, all of Lyman. He was Bumpa to eleven grandchildren and Great Bumpa to nine great grandchildren.
