Obituary:
HOLLIS- Anne M. Thompson, 81, died at her current residence, Beaumont Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation in Northbridge, MA on January 5th, 2013. Anne’s husband Dick Thompson, also a resident at Beaumont, was able to be close by. Anne was born on August 19th, 1931 in Erie, PA, the daughter of Helen Duguay Bretz and Martin Bretz. She was a devoted pastor’s wife and mother of two children. She attended Academy High School in Erie, PA, and Baptist Bible Seminary in Johnson City, NY. Music was Anne’s passion. She played accordion and piano as a child, but was particularly fond of the organ. As the wife of a pastor whose calling was to help struggling churches who found themselves between pastors, she often helped out by both playing the organ and directing church choirs. She was also a columnist for the Elmira Star Gazette and the Rumford Falls Times, focusing primarily on consumer advocate questions. For two years she served as Bates College News Director and then put some time in as an Assistant Development Director for WCBB. Anne and husband Dick spent many-a-month in campgrounds both serving the Lord and enjoying the company of new friends. She is survived by her husband Dick C. Thompson and her daughter Cynthia Ellen Williams of Waterboro, Maine. Her son, David Douglas Thompson, passed in 2006 at the age of 55. Anne was blessed with two older siblings who have since passed: Doris Bretz, who did what her Mom would have done for her if she had been alive during Anne’s childhood, and Donald Bretz, her one brother. She is survived by her younger sister, Martha Kline of Manchester, PA. Her son had 5 children and her daughter has 2 children; she had 7 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. There will be many people in multiple churches and multiple campgrounds who will remember Anne Thompson.
