Roger A. Betts - age: 81

Visitation will be held on Sunday, Dec. 11 from 1-2 PM at the Dennett, Craig & Pate Funeral Home, located on the corners of Rts 202 and 4A (13 Portland Rd) in Buxton (Bar Mills). A funeral service will immediately follow at the funeral home at 2 PM with Pastor Darwin Vail officiating. Burial with military honors will be private amongst Roger's family at South Buxton Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Roger's memory to the Town of Buxton Summer Scholarship Fund, c/o Tasha Pinkham, Rec. Dir, 185 Portland Rd., Buxton, Maine 04093.
BUXTON- Roger A. Betts, age 81, passed away on Dec. 7, 2011 at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough.
He was born in Saugus, MA on July 6, 1930, a son of the late Leroy and Eleanor (Cameron) Betts.
After Roger graduated from Samuel D. Hanson High School in Buxton, he enlisted into the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in the Philippines during the Korean War.
Roger was a machinist by trade. After serving in the Air Force, Roger moved the family to Cary, NC where he learned the machinist trade at Curlee Machine Shop. Upon returning to Maine, Roger worked at several different places before settling in at the SD Warren Research Department, where he worked his way up to a supervisory position. Roger also was in charge of the construction and operation of the Otto Building on Gambo Road in Windham. He retired from SD Warren in 1992 after 30 plus years of service.
He enjoyed home improvement projects, working in his woodlot, reading about World War II, and mastering the computer; however, spending time with his wife and family was what was most important to him.
Roger is predeceased by his first wife, Priscilla Berry Betts, brothers-Wilbur, Harold, and Leroy Betts Jr.; and sister Betty Halloran. He is survived by his beloved wife- "Bonnie" Bonita (Atkins) Betts, whom he married on Sept. 23, 1978; son- Peter Betts and his wife Sherri of Gray; grandchildren- Alicia Richards of Buxton, Megan and Tim Bright of Gray, Cameron Betts and Jared Betts of Gray; great grandchildren- Olivia Kimball Richards and Landon Daniel Richards of Buxton- sisters- Barbara Betts Pease of Buxton and Carol Betts Sanborn of Buxton; and many other relatives and friends.
