Obituary:
WATERBORO- Lacy RayGene Richard, age 23, of Goodwins Mill Road, passed away on Nov. 18, 2012 in the comfort of her home, surrounded by many dear friends and family members, after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born in Portland on Jan. 29, 1989, the daughter of Glen and Shelly (Knox) Richard.
After graduating from Massabesic High School in 2007, Lacy went on to attend York County Community College and Sea Coast Career School.
Lacy worked at Patty’s Flowers in Buxton, Casco Federal Credit Union in Gorham, and Wal-Mart in Biddeford.
Lacy had an incredible bond with her goddaughter Alyssa who she loved with all her heart and cherished every minute of the time that she spent with her. Lacy had some amazing “besties” who were by her side until the end. She loved to go shopping, to the movies, singing, dancing and going on benefit bike rides. She loved her “boys” Chip and Mocha that provided her with lots of love and comfort. Lacy touched so many people’s hearts and you were blessed if she called you her friend. Lacy will be remembered for her infectious smile. She may have been the smallest person you knew, but she was the strongest person any of us will ever know. Lacy always had her pink boxing gloves on. No matter what she was going through she never complained and she always would be there to help others. Lacy had an amazing support team. Twenty four of them got tattoos for her. Some are butterflies and boxing gloves.
For 12 years, Lacy has participated in Make-A-Wish Foundation walks and raised enough money to provide six “wishes” to those in need.
She is predeceased by her paternal grandfather- Raymond “P2” Gallant.
Lacy is survived by her parents- Glen and Shelly Richard of Waterboro; brother- Zachary Richard, age 15, of Waterboro; paternal grandmother- Gloria Gallant of Mexico, ME; maternal grandparents- Eugene and Penny Knox of Rumford, and Carol and Nick Nickerson of Waterboro; and many other relatives and dear friends.
Visitation will be on Wednesday, Nov. 21, from 11 AM – 2 PM, at the Dennett, Craig & Pate Funeral Home, located on the corners of Rts. 202 and 4A (13 Portland Road) in Buxton (Bar Mills). A memorial service to celebrate Lacy’s life will be held at the funeral home at 2 PM. Burial will follow at South Buxton (Tory Hill) Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to The Sister’s Wish, 10 Sabrina Lane, Springvale, Maine 04083.

My deepest sympathy to the Richard family & friends. Lacy was a beautiful soul. We never met Lacy, but have read many wonderful things about her. We had the privilege of attending a benefit for Lacy this fall & she became our hero. She was truly a remarkable young lady. Our hearts go out to you all. R.I.P. Lacy, may you soar with the angles & float with the butterflies! Rhonda & Bill Sinclair

I am very sad to hear of Lacy's passing. Her spirit is alive and well at YCCC where she attended college. The staff, faculty and students have all been blessed to have had the chance to have Lacy in their lives. She had a life well-lived and well-loved no matter how short a ride she had. The YCCC admissions staff have her family in our thoughts and prayers.

Glen, Shelly & Zac...I know there are no words to help ease your pain right now, but Lacy's pain is gone. I lost my brother Dwight 10 years ago...so I can wrap my head around what Zac may be feeling & I do know the day will come when there are more smiles than tears when you think of Lacy and what an amazing life she lived. She brought far more joy to so many lives in her 23 years than most people living to 100 could ever hope to bring. I asked my Mom if there was anything anyone said or did when Dwight passed that helped....she said no...it just took time and knowing that he wasn't in pain any more. Lacy will be in great company...and she will be forever in our hearts. Love to you all!!

Dear Shelly and family, I want to tell you that you are all in my prayers. I know Lacy is in a better place. I lost a brother when he was 21. It is easy to say time will heal everything but in reality it is very difficult for that to happen to anyone especially someone so young. I can kind of understand what you are going through but never really will. I have been wearing her bracelet for "Lacy's Team" and will remember her great smile when I saw her at her fundraising at the Eagles club months ago. Just know there are many thinking of her and all of you.
