A graveside service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 14, 2012 at the Spring Grove Cemetery in Andover, Massachusetts under the direction of Dennett, Craig & Pate Funeral Home, Saco, Maine.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org
WELLS - George P. Wilson, 87, of Charlie Loop passed away Saturday, November 10, 2012 at the Maine Medical Center in Portland.
He was born on January 4, 1925 in Methuen, Massachusetts, the son of the late Allen C. Wilson and Agnes M. (Morache) and was a 1942 graduate of Tewksbury High School. He was a veteran of the U. S. Navy during WWII and was involved in many invasions in the Pacific and Atlantic.
He devoted his career to the Department of Public Welfare in Massachusetts; in Tewksbury as a social worker to his role as Welfare Director for the towns of Newbury, Rowley and North Andover, and as the Director of Social Services in Lawrence until he retired in 1984. He retired to York and then Wells, Maine, and enjoyed gardening and oil painting. He was a member of the Senior Citizens of Wells, and the Lions Club and the Free and Accepted Masons of Massachusetts.
He is predeceased by his first wife Marjorie (Fessenden) Wilson. Survivors include his wife Jean Wilson of Wells, three children, Brenda Farkas of Texas, Cynthia Ratcliffe and her husband Thomas of Eliot, and Dayna Mayrose and her husband Daniel of North Berwick; two step-children, Lynn Dennison and her husband Michael and Robert Ela and his wife Stacy, 13 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
