Obituary:
BUXTON – Alice H. Sanborn, 80, of Buxton, passed away on Oct. 13, 2012, at the Springbrook Center in Westbrook after complications from a stroke suffered in July.
Alice was born in Rockland to William and Amy (Brown) Perry. At a very young age her father died and her mother moved to Baldwin.
After attending local area schools, she married Herman and they were inseparable for over 62 years. They lived in Scarborough for over 30 years before moving to Buxton. While in Scarborough, she worked for the school system for several years.
With a growing family, she enjoyed summers at Nason’s Beach in Sebago, snowmobiling in winter and camping throughout Maine and New Hampshire before joining the Pinecrafters Chapter of the Good Sam Camping Association. Along with her husband, Alice served in various capacities throughout the years including President of the local chapter and Secretary of the state association.
She looked forward to the Fryeburg Fair season every year. Several years ago, she decided to enter the ‘Skillet Throw’ and came away with a 1st place ribbon! She also enjoyed playing the ponies at the Fair on a limited budget!
Many lifelong friendships were made at the ‘Samborees’ and at the Fair.
Alice was a self employed crafter, exhibiting at many area craft shows for several years. In earlier years, she made and sold Barbie doll clothes which helped buy Christmas presents for her kids when they were small. Her knowledge, creativity and love of crafting through the years have been passed down to her daughter and grandchildren.
She was a devoted and caring wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great-grandmother who loved spending time with family and friends.
Alice, a.k.a. Mammy, Mum and Ma, will be forever lovingly remembered and sadly missed by all who knew her.
She is survived by her husband Herman Sanborn of Buxton; children, Mark Sanborn and his wife Terri of Windham, Daniel Sanborn and his wife Diane of Hollis, and Joy Harvey and her husband Lee of South Portland; grandchildren, Jennifer Greslick and her husband Ben of Windham, Bethany Benson and her husband Robert of Windham, TJ and his partner Katie Gould of Hollis, Aaron Harvey, Alyssa Harvey and her fiancé Brandon Skelton all of South Portland; great-grandchildren, Anthony and Lauren Benson, Mary, Xander and Amelia Greslick all of Windham, a special sister-in-law Gustie Howard and many friends… and of course her beloved cat ‘Matt Dillon’!
The family of Alice gives heartfelt thanks to all the Doctors, nurses and staff at Maine Medical Center, New England Rehab and especially to Springbrook Center for the excellent care and comfort they provided for her.
Family and friends are invited to a time of visitation and celebration of life on Thursday, October 18, 2012, from 4:00-5:30 p.m., immediately followed by a funeral service at 5:30 p.m. at the Dennett, Craig & Pate Funeral Home, located on the corner of Rt. 202 and 4A (13 Portland Rd) in Buxton (Bar Mills).
