BUXTON- Ruth Payson Mortimer passed away peacefully after a short illness on October 5, 2012. She was born to William and Clara Payson on October 23, 1926 in Rockland, Maine where she fostered a life-long love for Maine heritage and life style. She lived many years in Glen Cove, New York, raising her adored daughters Ellen and Katherine. She so enjoyed returning each summer to Nortonís Pond in Lincolnville Center so her daughters could learn to appreciate Maine as well.
Ruth was an accomplished painting and floral design artist, which, along with her knowledge of antiques, helped her launch the Down East Shop in Locust Valley, New York which she oversaw until she was able to return to Buxton Maine in 1988. She was so pleased to live her final years in the country with a sunset view. There, Ruth delighted sharing special times with her close friends Marie Darling, Isabelle Libby, Linda McGurl, Jackie Neuts, Diane Oakes and Nancy Stedman.
Ruth had been a devoted caregiver to both her mother Clara and Uncle Lawrence offering much time and spiritual support in their later years. Ruth looked forward to reuniting with her classmates from Rockland High School and she celebrated her ancestry as a member of the Mayflower Society.
Ruth will be dearly remembered by living family members: daughter Ellen Morun and her husband Mark of Westchester, Pennsylvania; daughter Katherine Armstrong and her husband Daniel of Buxton, Maine; sisters Betty Rina and Julia Korpinen of Buellton, California; granddaughter Cynthia Adelman of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania; grandson Scott of Westchester, Pennsylvania; and cousin Vera Matherson of Rockland, Maine. The family sincerely appreciated the care and support offered to Ruth by everyone involved including Cindy Santolucito and the staff at the Springbrook Center. Ruth was also very comforted by the kind adoption of her beloved cat, Drake, by Pamela Thompson.
There will be no public services.

To Ellen, Katherine & family, It was truly a pleasure to have known your mother, Ruth. I spent many happy hours with her at her home in Buxton going over her family genealogy so that she could become a member of the Mayflower Society of which she was so proud. Ruth will be sadly missed and will always hold a special place in my heart. Fond regards, Jill
