Obituary:
Lois Evelyn Martin Alder 97, formerly of Chatham, NJ, passed peacefully at her home in Saco on her wedding anniversary July 3, 2019. She is now dancing in heaven with her beloved Herbert Alder.
Lois was born in Newark, New Jersey on October 31, 1921, the daughter of Robert and Margaret (Schorn) Martin.
Lois studied dance since a young girl and performed on Broadway with Jimmy Durante, Ray Bolger, Milton Berle and Jackie Gleason the early 1940’s. She became a dance teacher in New Jersey while raising her family and taught for many years with her best friend, Myra Lamm, of Myra Witt Dance Studios.
After she and her husband retired from their careers in New Jersey, they moved to Maine in 1987. Lois was an active volunteer at Southern Maine Health Care in Biddeford. She was also very active in Capers Twig where she helped to coordinate the Cardiac Capers productions. She served on the Hospital's Auxiliary Board of Directors and managed the Hospital Gift Shop for many years. She also assisted in running a family owned campground in Old Orchard Beach.
She was predeceased by her husband Herbert Alder on January 24, 1990.
She is survived by two daughters Christie Ordway and her husband David of Saco, and Tracey Scholts and her husband Jim of Randolph, New Jersey, three grandchildren Scott Ordway and his wife Katelin of Portland, Brett Ordway and his wife Jennifer of Berwick, and Cailey Scholts of Randolph, New Jersey, four great grandchildren and a goddaughter, Wendy Leonard of Virginia.
She will also be missed by a devoted team of caregivers headed by Pam Riche.
