William graduated from Hollis High School in 1940. He worked as a welder in the Portland and Portsmouth shipyards; served as a mechanic in the US Army during WWII; and worked in construction building bridges in Maine and New Hampshire.
In 1974 he founded Country Agency Insurance, an independent insurance agency he actively operated until the age of 85. He was one of the first Dairyland and Foremost insurance agents in the state of Maine.
He was a lifelong member of the American Legion and Past Commander and Adjutant of Post 130 for over 40 and a member for 68 years. He also served in various state-level American Legion positions. William was an avid gardener, a voracious reader, and an accomplished mechanic. He made a yearly pilgrimage to Guilford, Maine during hunting season. He was a weekly participant in the Maine tradition of Saturday night bean suppahs, enjoying the company of others.
William had a great sense of humor that endured to the very end.
