Visitation Information:
Visiting hours will be held Friday June 15, 2018 from 10 to 11 AM at the Dennett, Craig & Pate Funeral Home 365 Main St, Saco. A 11:00 Funeral service will immediately follow at the funeral home with Richard G. Shover Jr. presiding.
Burial will follow at Laurel Hill Cemetery, Deering Park, where he will be laid to rest next to his wife Elizabeth.

Obituary:
Saco - George “ Buster“ Mapes Jr passed away Monday June 11, 2018 at the Maine Veterans Home in Scarborough with his family by his side.
He was born in Biddeford May 5, 1930 the son of George and Beryl Scammon Mapes, Sr.
Buster attended local schools and graduated from Thornton Academy in 1948.
He then attended and graduated from Portland Junior College (now University of Southern Maine).
Buster was employed at the Limerick Mills and other local gas stations. He then worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard as a pipefitter, entering the apprentice program from which he graduated from.
He worked for General Dynamics in Connecticut for over 27 years, retiring to New Bern, NC in 1991.
Buster returned to Maine in 2008 and enjoyed stamps and coin collecting, genealogy, travel and reading about the Civil War.
He is predeceased by his wife Elizabeth (Black) Mapes in 2001.
Survivors include 2 daughters Patricia Shover and husband Richard G. Shover Jr, of North Troy, Vt and Jane Allen and husband John Allen of Old Orchard Beach ,2 brothers Arthur Mapes and his wife Connie of Peabody, MA and Ronald Mapes and his wife Barbara of Concord, NH, 5 grandchildren Justin and his wife Leah, Monika, Paige, Jacob and Kayley and a great grandson Morgan.
